a few weeks ago, i attended a networking event for ladies in creative industries. at first i was hesitant, bc from experience, a room full of ladies often goes awry. there’s just that underlying tension that uproots from competition and bitterness amongst girls. it’s annoying. anyways, i went because le babe dropped me off and didnt look back. to say the least, it was VERY worthwhile and inspiring, and i met a lot of good people.

however, a circle of us got into the topic of iphones. i chimed in cause my fingers are fat and the dexterity of texting on a touchscreen escapes me. that’s why i have a blackberry. my cool factor went down a notch amongst them. then from the iphone we transitioned into the realm of macs. i made the mistake of mentioning that i was PC user. for a split second, i thought everyone was going to leave me and return my business card. my cool factor went down 10 notches. everyone gasped, “WHAT??! you don’t have a MAC?” god forbid i also mention that my PC was from college and the battery pack is dead which forces me to be plugged into a wall, so in actuality it’s a laptop turned desktop.

i saved myself by laughing too loud and ordering another jack daniels to up my coolness. yikes. so i think its about time that i make the transition into a professional cool guy. im doing it guys. im buying a mac today. *bow*

went to CANTO DO BRASIL in hayes valley tonite with le babe, since he promised to take me out on a date after locking himself in the dungeon office for a whole week. canto do brasil was sloppy seconds, after we passed by CHAN CHAN on 18th only to be dismayed that they were closed on mondays. boo you.

we started off well. the bread and salmon pate were FANTASMIC. it could only get better from there, yea? no dudebro, no. my SAGRES had a metal aftertaste and the MANDIOCA YUCCA was bland. i may have lard laiden epicurean tastes, but the yucca sticks i recall always come with a side of aioli. this came with a tiny cup of salsa from the jar.
bleh. finally the entrees came out. no lie, they looked hella tasty, but it was a hoax. le babe had the BIFE ACEBOLADO (essentially bipstek). and i had the GALINHA NA CERVEJA. (beer marinated chicken).
mine was not bad, but le babe’s beef was dishearteningly rough and tough.

we had more leftovers than we started with, a bill bigger than our bellies, and got harangued by a crackhead before we got to into the car.

otherwise, a good night.

le babe came home. (yeayhoo!) i decided to take him out to dinner so that we could spend some quality time together before he leaves again for another undisclosed amount of time…so i took him to OLD JERUSALEM (on 25th & mission). i ordered the mousakhan. (oven roasted chicken on top of arab flat bread, roasted pine nuts, sweet onions, and deep-red sumac) miam miam. le babe ordered the chicken shwarema. he was not impressed.

watevs, i tried to win him back by ordering a slice of hot kunafa (goat cheese, syrup, wheat & pistachio), but it was still not a win.

he said, “its nothing like the old country.” geez, i didnt know i was dating an authentic israeli epicurean. btw, le babe is russian. watevs. IM JUST GLAD HE’s BACK! (for now). im sure he’s just as excited.

i went on one of these trips a couple summers ago, and it was quite a disappointment. there was one rapid in a stretch of 7 miles during 100 degree heat. hopefully this one will get me wet. all over.

my dad is a genuine handyman. for the most part, i attribute it to the fact that he won’t waste a dime on a service that he believes he can do for free. that includes alterations. he’d always hem our pants as kids, but he never took into consideration that we were kids, and that eventually our shins would need coverage too.

that’s when the shame of being a peglegged adolescent etched itself into a lifetime of taunting and self consciousness. on the bright side, i was the coolest one when capris came out.

this reverted me to those childhood memories, but i wouldn’t mind rocking this. i just want to put her in my pocket and take her home and cuddle. SOO CUTE.

went camping with le sis and le bro and their le friends in the middle of nowhere this weekend. (seriously 60 miles out of any network and sign of civilization)…despite being remotely separated from the rest of the world, the interesting company made it worthwhile.

a few years back, i helped open the diesel flagship on melrose. to say the least, it was the crappiest thing in the world to be forced to open a store in less than 72 hours. in the warehouse/sweatshop, i do remember opening one of the millions of cardboard boxes to find the greatest surprise on earth….taxidermy siamese mice. they were of course, property of the merchandising team, but oh how i wanted to just take a boxfull and make a little siamese mouse army back home.

now, it’s moving time again, and i want to make the place homey. like my kind of homey. so i went on a quest for some quaint taxidermy. i think this guy takes the cake. dead hamlet. i have to keep it classy.

the selection is limited online, so i guess i have to actually go to the store and handpick my new accessories. can’t wait.
